Celtic ‘scout’ Adil Boulbina as promising Algeria winger’s transfer speculation escalates

CELTIC have sent scouts to monitor Algerian winger Adil Boulbina, according to reports in his homeland.

It is claimed that the Hoops are one of several clubs who have shown an interest in the 19-year-old, who plays for Paradou.

A left-sided player, he made 25 league appearances for Paradou in Algeria’s Professional League 1 and scored three times, adding three more assists.

He also landed caps for the Algerian Under-20s and Under-23s.

According to DZ Foot in Algeria, Boulbina ‘caught the attention’ of scouts from Lille, Angers, Frankfurt and Celtic in an Under-23 game against Japan.

He played the entire game at Stade Parsemain as Algeria lost 1-0.

In wide areas, Celtic currently have Liel Abada, James Forrest, Mikey Johnston and Daizen Maeda.

Jota is missing from this list at the moment as it hasn’t yet been confirmed that he has turned his loan move from Benfica into a permanent one.

Among the other options, Abada prefers playing on the right rather than the left, Maeda is more of a winger/forward hybrid while Forrest and Johnston have suffered constant injury problems in recent seasons.

This could motivate Ange Postecoglou to consider strengthening his arsenal in this department.

Boulbina only made the full leap from Paradou’s youth line-up to the first team in October last year.

The length of his current contract is unknown, but Celtic would most certainly have to pay a fee for his services.

Meanwhile, Carl Starfelt’s injury has been deemed “problematic” by Swedish boss Janne Andersson.

The Celtic defender was stretched out in last night’s Nations League clash against Slovenia.

Sweden won 2-0 but paid the price on the injury front.

In a rare start for his country, Starfelt only lasted just before half-time before being taken off.

He was replaced by Alexander Milosevic after what looked like a hamstring injury, forcing him to be carried away.

After last night’s win, boss Janne Andersson gave an update on Starfelt saying: “It’s a problematic situation. It’s a very important part of the team.

“Even if he’s inexperienced, you want a centre-back you’re used to.”
