Libya and Algeria seek to activate their economic relations on several levels. The sentiment manifested itself during the meeting between the Libyan Minister of Economy and Trade Mohamed Hwej and the Algerian Minister of Finance Ayman Bin Abdelrahman last Sunday on the sidelines of the Algerian Libyan Economic Forum which was held from 29 to 31 May in Algiers.

During the meeting, Minister Hwej discussed ways to improve and raise the level of trade between the two countries and speed up the opening of the land border post (Al-Dabdab), which Libya considers as an economic zone in the region of Ghadames.

They also agreed to work on re-studying, evaluating and updating the trade and economic agreements, as well as the double taxation agreement in light of the economic and trade developments that the world is experiencing, and to the conclusion of an indicative memorandum of understanding on this subject. .

The meeting also discussed the mechanism for creating a trade partnership between Libyan and Algerian economic actors, activating the role of the private sector in the two countries, stepping up visits by trade delegations, setting up joint specialized exhibitions and the establishment of permanent channels of communication. between officials and technical committees to learn about developments in the fields of economy and trade.

At the end of the meeting, it was underlined the importance of activating the Libyan-Algerian Bank and of fulfilling its commercial role with the contribution of public and private institutions, and of facilitating the financial procedures for the clients of the two countries. .
