Man City transfer news RECAP Julian Alvarez to City confirmed as four deadline day leave

Confirmed: Matt Smith joins MK Dons

City midfielder Matt Smith has had his loan to Hull cut short to join MK Dons in Ligue 1.

MK Dons says Smith is joining permanently for an undisclosed fee, ending an eight-year stint at City.

He said:

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be here and can’t wait to get started. It was time for me to leave City and I don’t think I could have found a better club to join. The facilities here are fantastic and the players and staff seem fantastic too. There’s a real project going on here and I wanted to be part of it.”

Sporting Director Liam Sweeting said:

“We have long admired Matt from afar, with our recruitment team exploring opportunities to sign him on several occasions.

“Matt has a great pedigree having been signed by Man City at a young age and became a senior Wales international. He will bring control, creativity and a solid understanding of how we want the team to operate.”

And MK Dons head coach Liam Manning said:

We are very happy to have Matt on board. He’s well suited to the way we like to play football, given his upbringing at Manchester City, and is a Welsh international in his own right, which only underlines the quality he possesses.

“He certainly strengthens our midfield and, I’m sure, he will have a tremendous impact between now and the end of the season and beyond too.”
