Riyad Mahrez hails Said Benrahma’s brilliant form for West Ham and says he’s not surprised to see his Algerian teammate become a regular at David Moyes’ Hammers … as he vows to keep his place in the starting XI for the Man City test

  • Said Benrahma has been one of West Ham’s best players so far this season
  • The Algerian has already scored six goals in all competitions this season
  • Riyad Mahrez believes his international teammate can continue his great form
  • West Ham could tie Man City in third with Etihad win on Sunday

Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez has said it is only a matter of time before international teammate Said Benrahma becomes a success at West Ham.

Algerian colleagues will face off in a battle between two of the top four at the Etihad this afternoon.

Benrahma has become a regular on David Moyes’ side and has already doubled the three-goal tally from last season.

Mahrez, who had his own youthful issues following a £ 60million transfer from Leicester, had no doubts it would work for the Hammers playmaker.

“Said is doing very well,” he said. “Last season he also played well but didn’t score the goals he expected.

“The performance was there though and this season he’s had more starts.

“I’m happy for him because he’s a great guy and I hope he keeps going.”

Mahrez was excellent against PSG in the middle of the week and is hoping that will be enough to keep his place in Pep Guardiola’s all-star group.

“If you do a good performance and score goals, you have more chances to play,” he added.

“We have a great team and everyone has quality, so it’s the manager who decides. You have to work hard to play.
