Marinakis will grow in the transfer market
Evangelos Marinakis has no intention of seeing Nottingham Forest relegated from the Premier League as he prepares to back Steve Cooper in the transfer market.
Marinakis told thousands of supporters it was time for a new era of success in Market Square yesterday after the Reds secured promotion at Wembley on Sunday. Teams moving up via the play-offs are often called to struggle, but last season Brentford thrived as Norwich and Watford floundered after automatic promotion.
BT Sport commentator and Reds fan Darren Fletcher believes Forest will take a very different approach to the last two sides, with Marinakis able to use his wealth and connections to strengthen manager Steve Cooper’s hand.
Speaking on the Garibaldi Red podcast, he said: “Why wouldn’t he (go)? The amount of money he paid into his own bank account just to keep Forest in the Championship , why wouldn’t you as Premier League club don’t get into it?
“He’s not here to be in the Championship. He wants to own a Premier League club, which he does now. He’s had real success with Olympiacos coming into the Champions League every season.
“If you think of the players who came from this club to the Premier League, Sa at Wolves is a very good goalkeeper, Tsimikas would play at Liverpool if it weren’t for Andy Robertson and Daniel Podence is a very good player for Wolves These three players, you wonder if Forest had been a Premier League club, would they have come to the City Ground?
